The socialist general secretary accused the government today of being "in a permanent campaign" and making a "simulation of dialogue" about housing because the objective was another Council of Ministers "to mark the start of the campaign" for the European elections.

Pedro Nuno Santos took to the stage of Incrível Almadense, in Almada, today to close the rally of the first day of the campaign for the European elections and chose the Government of Luís Montenegro as his target.

"We have a Government in Portugal that intensely fights the previous Government, but is also in permanent campaign mode. A Government that holds several Council of Ministers meetings per week, we never know if in the morning, if in the afternoon, if on Monday, if on Wednesday", he said ironically.

According to the PS leader, the reasons why "a Council of Ministers meeting is held" by the PSD/CDS-PP executive are several: "when they are criticised for not controlling the agenda and for being overtaken by the opposition party, when a poll is released that is not to their liking, when the PS has an agenda in parliament to present and approve a measure or when the AD's lead candidate for the European elections has a poor performance on television".

"In reality, what we have is not a Government governing, we have a government in permanent campaign mode. Without strategy, without vision, without coherence, that presents measures, most of which have already been taken or initiated by the previous Government, that are presented as their own", he accused.

Pedro Nuno Santos focused on today's Council of Ministers meeting, the first official day of the European campaign, in which some housing measures were approved.

"The dialogue [with the parties] was a simulation, the important thing was that there was a Council of Ministers meeting to mark the beginning of the campaign", he accused.

The PS leader recalled that the Government met with the parties in parliament, but "a week and a half later" and "without giving them time" to propose measures or present solutions "they decided to hold a Council of Ministers meeting to approve measures quickly".
