The European elections will take place in a few days and, in case you still have some doubts, we have gathered some important information to help you.

Please note that this electoral act takes place between June 6 and 9 in the various countries of the European Union and, in Portugal, the election is scheduled for June 9, when you will be able to vote for the first time at any polling station in the country or the EU.

National citizens residing abroad can vote in person at their respective diplomatic missions on June 8 and 9. However, if you are unable to vote on these dates, you can register for early voting.

Do you still have doubts? Did you just turn 18 this month and don't know if you can vote? Don't know if you can still register for early voting? Don't know what time you should vote? The DECO PROteste has gathered a set of information that answers these and other questions.

Here's what you need to know:

How do I know my polling place?

As usual, you can find out where you are registered through the parish council and the city council or on the website of the Ministry of Internal Administration. In this case, simply enter your personal data and you will easily be able to find out what your polling place is.

But there are other alternatives. You can install the MAI Mobile app or send an SMS to 3838, with the following content: RE (leave a space then) civil identification number without the last letters and digits (leave another space) date of birth YYYYMMDD. If you are abroad, the SMS should be sent to +351 962 171 000, with the same message.

However, in these European elections it will be possible to vote in mobility, anywhere in the country or abroad, without prior registration, regardless of the place of registration, as long as you have your identification document with you. If you do not have your identification document with you, you will have to vote at the table corresponding to the place of registration.

What time can I vote?

In the mainland and the Madeira archipelago, it is possible to vote on June 9 between 08:00 and 19:00. In the Azores, the polls also close at 19:00 (20:00 in Lisbon). After this time, please note that only voters who are at the polling station may vote.

On June 8, the hours of polling stations abroad will be between 08:00 and 19:00 local time. On June 9, in the American continent, voting opens at 08:00 and closes between 12:00 and 16:00 local time.

What documents do I need to vote?

To vote you must appear at the polling station and you must give your name, identifying yourself with your citizen card or identity card.

If you choose to identify yourself with your citizen card and it has been expired for more than two years, then your registration has become inactive. You must renew your identification document or use another of the documents or means accepted for this purpose.

The voter can identify himself with a document that has an updated photograph and that he usually uses for identification, such as a driver's license or even a passport. In turn, the voter card will not be accepted because its issuance was discontinued in 2008 and the voter number was eliminated.

If you do not have any of these documents with you, it is still admissible for two citizen voters to attest, under a pledge of honor, your identity. Identification can also be made by recognition of all members of the polling station.

Despite these rules, an exceptional regime is in force in the next European elections. According to this regime, voters can only vote at any polling station if they have their civil identification document with them. If they do not have this document, they must vote at their place of registration.

The document presented through the Government's document application, designated id.gov.pt, has the same legal force as the physical document. This app can therefore be used as an alternative, even abroad, since the polling stations will be integrated into Portuguese diplomatic missions.

I have changed my address, what now?

Generally, the right to vote is always exercised in the place where you are registered.

If you have changed your residence, but have not yet updated your citizen card, you must vote at the previous address. When you update your address - something that is mandatory - the update is automatic on the citizen card and the polling place will in the future be assigned to the new address.

I will be 18 by election day. Can I vote?

The answer is yes. If you turn 18 by June 9, you can vote in the next European elections. Your provisional registration in the electoral census becomes definitive on the day you turn 18.

And in case of illness or obvious physical disability?

DECO PROteste uses as an example voters affected by blindness. These can vote accompanied by another voter of their choice, who must guarantee the fidelity of the expression of the vote, being obliged to absolute secrecy. In addition, it is necessary for the table to verify that the voter cannot vote alone. If you have any doubts, you can also request the presentation of a certificate issued by the doctor who exercises health authority powers in the area of the municipality.

How does early voting work? Can I still register?

It should be recalled that, if voters are unable to vote on June 8 or 9, as the case may be, they can exercise their right to vote early.

To vote in mobility in advance, voters must express this intention to the Electoral Administration of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration, by post or online. You have until May 30.

Remember, however, that all requests for early voting in mobility sent by post must be received by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration by May 30. Then, on June 2, they must appear at the chosen polling station with their identification document to vote in advance.

Displaced voters abroad who wish to vote early should go to the consular sections of embassies, consulates or external delegations of Portuguese public institutions defined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between May 28 and 30. After voting, they will receive a receipt.

Patients admitted to hospital establishments, as well as prisoners not deprived of political rights, should have registered to vote in advance by May 20. Between May 27 and 3>
