PSD and CDS-PP met this morning in Funchal
The regional leaders of the PSD and CDS-PP met this morning at Quinta Vigia, in Funchal, a meeting that preceded the parties' audiences with the representative of the Republic in Madeira, a Social Democrat source told Lusa.

According to the same source, the leader of CDS-PP/Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues, went to the official residence of the president of the Regional Government before being received by the representative of the Republic in Madeira, Ireneu Barreto, at 12:00.
In the regional legislative elections on Sunday, Miguel Albuquerque's PSD (president of the Madeiran executive since 2015) won again and elected 19 deputies, five short of an absolute majority. The CDS-PP elected two deputies.
Unlike what happened in these elections, in the regional elections of September 2023, PSD and CDS-PP ran in coalition. The coalition was one deputy short of an absolute majority, with the PSD occupying 20 seats in the hemicycle and the CDS-PP three seats.
After the political crisis triggered after Miguel Albuquerque was made a defendant in a process investigating suspicions of corruption in Madeira, the PSD broke the coalition.
On election night, the Madeiran Social Democrat leader assured that he was available to negotiate with all political forces to form a government.
On Monday, the PS, which maintained the parliamentary group of 11 deputies, and Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), which saw its representation increase from five to nine members, announced a joint understanding to build an alternative and remove the PSD from governance.
Together, PS and JPP have 20 deputies, one more than the PSD alone.
Together, PSD and CDS-PP have 21 deputies.
The representative of the Republic, Ireneu Barreto, is today hearing the seven parties with parliamentary representation, after Sunday's elections, in ascending order of votes: PAN (one deputy), IL (one), CDS-PP (two), Chega (four), JPP (nine), PS (11) and PSD (19).
According to a note released on Monday, the objective of the meetings is to gather "the formal and political conditions" to "proceed with the appointment of the president of the XV Regional Government".
The early elections in Madeira took place eight months after the most recent regional legislative elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved the Madeiran parliament, following the political crisis triggered in January, when the leader of the Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, was made a defendant in a process in which suspicions of corruption are being investigated.
