"Is the European election to get rid of those who have not been able to prove themselves?"

The Minister of the Presidency, Leitão Amaro, today questioned whether the European elections are "a way to send off those who failed to prove themselves" in Portugal in the previous socialist government.

Speaking at a lunch for the AD candidacy at Caves de Coimbra, Leitão Amaro alluded to the "heavy inheritance" left by the PS and said that he sometimes wonders "if one of the revelations on the PS list is not who they sent on the lists for Europe" because they realized that they were not capable of governing in Portugal.

In his view, among the "biggest failures" and the "biggest disasters in socialist governance are certainly health policy and migration policy, and both are at the top of the PS list".

"So is the European election a way to dispatch those who have not been able to prove themselves, after all, on national soil?", asked the minister, alluding to Marta Temido and Ana Catarina Mendes, former ministers of Health and Parliamentary Affairs, respectively.

António Leitão Amaro recalled that "only 60 days have passed" since the current government took office and that those who governed for 3,050 days "were unable to build houses or decide on an airport".

"In fact, they decided on three and then decided on none. In 60 days we decided on the location of the airport, the construction of the third Tagus crossing. See the difference", he stressed.

The minister considered that "the great revelation of these weeks" is that "the parties on the left and on the right are no longer anywhere, they are together where it suits them".

"Together with each other, the PS and Chega, in a negative coalition, only concerned with one thing: not letting us govern and transform the lives of the Portuguese for the better, trying to come to power themselves, even though the Portuguese did not choose them for this", he warned.

According to Leitão Amaro, if, on the one hand, "the head of the radical right list does not know which of the radical rights he will sit in", on the other hand, the party renounces "the most basic of its electoral commitments".

"What do we see every week in the Assembly of the Republic? Who does the PS vote with? With Chega. Who does Chega vote with? The PS", he stressed.

Therefore, he argued that only the AD "will give a sure vote for Europe, moderate, reformist, committed to the European process".

At the beginning of his speech at the rally lunch in Coimbra, seeing the enthusiasm of those present, Leitão Amaro expressed his confidence that the AD will win "not only on the 9th", but already on the 2nd.

"Many people are already voting this Sunday and many more can still do so. Let us never forget to appeal for the vote", he asked.
