Meta may be about to join the ‘elite’ of Microsoft and Google
The company will start licensing the operating system for virtual reality glasses to other manufacturers.

Meta has announced that it has begun licensing the operating system that powers its virtual reality headset, Horizon OS, to other manufacturers of such devices, reports The Verge.
Companies such as Lenovo and Asus are among those that have already been confirmed as taking advantage of Meta’s Horizon OS, as is Xbox, which will leverage the platform and a version of the Quest to release a device for Microsoft’s consoles.
In addition to this licensing, Meta has also said that it intends to make alternative app stores available on Horizon OS — even inviting Google to bring its Play Store.
Meta hasn’t revealed any information about the licensing agreements and details, but should the move gain traction, Mark Zuckerberg’s company could end up having the same kind of significance in virtual reality that Microsoft and Google have had in personal computers and mobile phones, respectively.
