This Tuesday, April 23rd, marks exactly 19 years since the first YouTube video was published.
The first video on the platform, founded in 2005, is only 19 seconds long and was published by co-founder Jawed Karim.
The video, entitled 'Me at the Zoo', shows Jawed Karim in front of an elephant enclosure at San Diego Zoo in the United States.
The video, which shows a mundane scene, managed to prove the platform's goal of making it easier for users to share videos. It was videos like this that earned YouTube a $1.65 billion acquisition by Google in 2006, enabling the emergence of content creation careers in recent years.
