Apple CEO Tim Cook took over the leadership role in 2011 and has been steering the tech giant ever since. However, it seems that Cook’s succession is already being considered.
Bloomberg claims to have spoken to “people familiar with Apple’s internal deliberations”, and while there’s no indication that Cook will be leaving his CEO role anytime soon, the word is that the position could open up in about three years – when Tim Cook will be 67 years old.
There are several potential candidates, depending on when Cook decides to step down as CEO. Bloomberg’s sources say that if Cook were to be forced out of the company in the near future, COO Jeff Williams would be the most likely candidate to take over as CEO.
However, if Cook stays on for another three years, current SVP of Hardware Engineering John Ternus emerges as a more viable option. Not only has Ternus been rising through the ranks at Apple (with admiration from Tim Cook himself), but he is also younger than the other alternatives.
