"In addition to removing content that violates our policies, we also track the percentage of views of policy-violating content on YouTube before it’s removed," the tech giant said, noting that in the fourth quarter of 2023, "this content accounted for 0.11%–0.12% of views" on the platform, according to a post online by the tech giant.

This "means that for every 10,000 views on YouTube, between 11 and 12 were of content that violated our community guidelines," the platform continued.

"We will continue to invest in this work, where AI [artificial intelligence] helps to further increase the speed and accuracy of our content moderation systems," YouTube asserted.

In addition, "coordinated influence operations are not allowed on YouTube, regardless of the political viewpoints they support."

In this regard, "we work closely with Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG) to identify these types of campaigns on YouTube and terminate their channels," it said, noting that "this can include attempts to interfere in elections," namely the European elections in June.

"For example, as TAG shared, ahead of the recent Portuguese elections, we terminated seven YouTube channels linked to individuals in Argentina, as part of our ongoing investigations into disinformation campaigns," it recalled.

Through TAG, "we also share threat intelligence with law enforcement authorities, such as EUROPOL."

YouTube has also played a role in promoting media literacy.

To "help viewers evaluate the content they see and share, in 2022 we launched the media literacy campaign HitPause. The video series, which is available in all official EU languages, provides tips on how to spot different manipulation tactics --- from the use of emotional language to understanding the potential impact of what we each share with others online," it recalled.

YouTube will continue to "work together with governments, industry and NGOs across the European Union and beyond on these efforts, and not just during election periods."

And, "as we enter the final month of the 2024 campaign, dedicated teams across YouTube and Google will continue to refine and improve these efforts, always with our core goal in mind: connecting people with quality content and protecting our platform," it concluded.
