The damage caused by the heavy rains and floods last week in the state of Rio Grande do Sul continues to be calculated by the Brazilian authorities, but to get an idea of the scale of the tragedy, there is nothing better than to see images captured from space.
The images in question were shared by NASA on its page on the social network X (ex-Twitter), where it is mentioned that the Terra and Aqua satellites captured images of the affected area. As you can see below, the images were combined to form a GIF and allow a direct comparison of the before and after of this flood, with the mud staining the northern area of the Lagoa dos Patos in the vicinity of the city of Porto Alegre.
The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul recently disclosed that, so far, 113 people have died due to these floods and that almost 1.9 million people have been affected by the tragedy.
