Sony (narrowly) missed PlayStation 5 sales targets

Despite this, the Sony console has already sold 59 million units since it was launched at the end of 2020.

Sony (narrowly) missed PlayStation 5 sales targets

Sony has shared its financial results for the fiscal year that ended in March, revealing that the PlayStation 5 has fallen short of its revised sales targets.

Sony initially predicted it would sell 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles in fiscal 2023. That figure was later revised down to 21 million units, but the Japanese company has now revealed that the console has “only” sold 20.8 million units.

Still, that brings the PlayStation 5’s total sales to date to 59 million units. According to CNBC, the news was accompanied by an update on the organizational structure of Sony’s gaming division.

With Jim Ryan stepping down as CEO, Sony has revealed that there will now be two CEOs in charge of separate parts of the Sony Interactive Entertainment business. Hideaki Nishino will be CEO of the Platform Business Group, and Hermen Hulst will be CEO of the Studio Business Group.
