"Disinformation is very present in the 'online' environment, we think it's something we have to invest in and that's why we rely on 'fact-checkers' with local partners", says Yasmina Laraudogoitia.

The manager was in Portugal to participate in the 33rd APDC Congress.

Currently, the social network has "3.3 million monthly active users" in Portugal.

In Portugal, the social network works with Polígrafo, considering this partnership "immensely useful".

"We have collaborated with them, let's say, consistently and constantly", she continues, pointing out that in the case of the Portuguese elections, held on March 10, they worked on this specific event with Polígrafo.

"We have a specific workflow with Polígrafo and now with the European elections as well", adds Yasmina Laraudogoitia.

"It is very important for us to gather information from experts", stresses the manager.

Yasmina Laraudogoitia also explains how TikTok uses the moderation system.

"We train our system of moderators, our moderation teams are specifically trained in disinformation thanks to this partnership and in this way we can know what type of information is more popular and so on", and then artificial intelligence (AI) is also used.

In the contents generated by AI there can be misleading and harmful information and hence disinformation.

"In fact, we are the first platform that includes a tool so that content creators can label" if there has been manipulation.

That is, "if they make a video that is manipulated with AI, that is generated with AI, they can be trained and inform the community. And this is being done with artificial intelligence, she explains.

And now "we are collaborating with the Coalition for Provenance and Authenticity", she adds.

What does that mean? "Our moderation system will be more efficient in detecting content generated by AI and, in this way, we will be able to moderate better and we will be able to be more efficient in terms of also combating disinformation", she explains.

TikTok uses AI for the recommendation system to provide the best experience, the best content for each user and also for moderation.

"We have implemented the content protocols and with that we are better able to identify generated content", she says.

With the content generated by AI, TikTok intends to provide more transparency to users and also to be more efficient in terms of content moderation, as well as empowering the community.

In short, "transparency and empowerment", she concludes.

In terms of providing context, "we have 40,000 professionals worldwide" in the fight against disinformation, she says, and 173 moderators for specific content.

But this number will change as the content evolves.
