O Prémio Nobel da Medicina foi entregue ao norte-americano James P. Allison e ao japonês Tasuku Honjo pela "descoberta de terapia pela inibição da regulação imunológica" no combate ao cancro.
O comité da Academia Sueca distinguiu os dois investigadores pela seu papel na investigação no papel da imunoterapia na luta contra o cancro.
O anúncio foi feito às 10h30 a partir de Estocolmo, na Suécia.
Em 2017, recorde-se, os distinguidos com o Nobel na área da Medicina foram Michael Rosbash, Jeffrey Connor Hall e Michael Warren Young, na área dos mecanismos moleculares que regulam o ritmo circadiano.
